I love taking a serving or two of dehydrated kraut on the trail. With slices of summer sausage and maybe some cheese in a tortilla wrap... good stuff. Something different too.
I usually get the (Ghiradelli?) 86% at WalMart. Individually wrapped squares, a package lasts a couple of weeks. Like Connie, one square is enough, and like 3_Dogs, it goes great with a good scotch.
These are good stuff. I got the backpacker's sampler of veggies and it's a great way to add some nutrition and variety to your meals.
A shelter in his honor?!?! Now that's funny.
Absolutely agree about the anti-tick measures. Had a "mild" case of Lyme that was caught very early, and it still kicked my butt for a couple of months.
The last report I saw reported that the authorities found a note in her car and they do not suspect foul play. Finding the note was not made public until her body was found.
I use the Exped Air Pillow combined with a small piece of 2" thick firm foam underneath. I need the extra height because I sleep on my side. I originally thought that I'd have to use a stuff sack...
I cut a small plastic container that held deli meat down to about 2" tall. Holds my FBC bag while I eat and weighs practically zip. I suppose I could use it as a very small sink if needed.
I love my Pacer Poles. The only improvement I would wish for is flick locks instead of twist locks. Really though, most any pole will do, and like mentioned by Soumodeler, I used a broom handle...
If you suspect Lyme and the test comes back negative, insist on a second test. There are also two kinds of tests, one takes longer but is slightly more reliable. I knew I had Lyme and talked the...
I have two. A standard length and width one, and the torso model that Wayne mentioned. I like them a lot. The minor weight increase over the regular NeoAir is well worth it for the extra...

Look closely at the photos on their website. You can lose about 4" of width if you raise the floor into the bathtub configuration. My DR is several years old and I really like it, but I do use it...
I have a couple of small plastic bins with lids that hold all my dehydrated food and powders. I also have a small bin in the freezer with some trail food in it to extend its storage life.
My local Sam's Club has single serve packets of sauerkraut in the diner area.
Time to organize them into your "trail mix".
Kudos to BassPro! I "graduated" to an Excalibur a few years ago after using a cheapie round Nesco for almost a decade. Never had a problem with either, but the Excalibur is an amazing step up in...
Thanks Perry, that's a good list of resources!
Yep. Pretty much what I do for my "sleep clothes". The exception is if I'll want to change into "camp clothes", then I keep them separate in a giant ziplock.
Jardine's quilt kit includes a "draft stopper" feature that works well. It's basically a 6" wide strip of non-insulated material along the sides of the quilt. You can grab them and tuck them under,...
Raisins, peanuts, M&Ms and honey-nut cheerios. Occasionally I'll put together something more exotic, but buying the separate ingredients usually results in a year's supply.
Like a lot of hikers, I keep a notebook for the hike. I write down notes to myself, names and contact info for people I meet, journal at the end of the day, notes about pictures I take, what works...
Simple but tasty "ice cream" can be made by slicing and freezing bananas. Toss them into a food processor and buzz a while. You might have to scrape down the sides once or twice, but keep going. ...
A "real" photon has a replaceable battery. Countycomm dot com has cheap knockoff both with and without clips. They're serviceable, and I usually have a bunch in drawers around the house.
