It is the 100 mile wildness that's driving me to shed every oz possible, because I'll be carrying a lot of food.
What do you think about this: I won't carry the rain pants, gaitors, sleeping bag...
Hello WB!
I have a marmot mica rain jacket and a pair of marmot essence rain pants. I also plan to hike in a pair of Exofficio Ziwa convertible pants. I plan to go SOBO in early to mid-July. Here...
Thanks all!
For those who said they don't carry camp shoes, how do you cross streams? Bare foot? I'm going SOBO so I'll probably ford a lot of streams early on.
Thanks garlic08! That was a...
Hello WB!
Moosky here. I'm going through my gear list again to try to shed some weight. I remember some one said that he never used camp shoes. Camp shoes can be pretty heavy. A pair of cros can...
Thanks VTATHiker! I'd love to see your trail journal. I guess my estimate of 22 lb is not far off from what's sufficient if I add a day or two to your 7.5 days.
Hi gizzy, thanks for the reply. Pending on a couple moving parts in my life, I'm hoping to start my SOBO thru in early to mid-July. I'd be glad to keep you posted!
Carrying the fridge eh? Who's...
Thanks Slo-go'en. I saw the 2 lb/day stat from another post on WB. Guess that is for seasoned hiker who have big appetite?
Thanks for all the replies! You are all awesome!
Hello Moosky here. I recently received AWOL's 2013 SOBO guide. With much excitement, I started to look up the intervals between shelters in the 100 mile wildness. It seems that they are pretty evenly...

Don't know how many asians are there on the trail. But if you see one, it might be me! Looking forward to meeting everyone on the trail!
I have exactly the same problem, although I'm 25 already. My parents simply have trouble to let go. They always wanted to influence me on my choice of school/major/career. So far I managed to stick...
Hello all,
I have a Marmot Reactor jacket (100 weight fleece), size L. I am going to buy a Marmot Mica as rain jacket. I am wondering, does a size L Mica fit over a size L Reactor? Do I need to go...
Haha thanks for the tips on water treatment. I was planning to be NOBO until I found out that my visa expires in Feb 2014. And since my job won't release me until July 2013, I figured my best option...

Thanks for the info. That's what I heard. The weather can change very quickly. Did you bring any winter clothes?
What about the price to quality factor? If Essence is not durable at all, should I go for a light but cheaper product? (I think dri-duck is pretty light as well, but much cheaper?)
Thanks for the info! If that's the case, maybe I should go with cheaper rain pants... what about the marmot precip? It's heavier than the essence so I assume it's sturdier?

Thanks! Does the Essence jacket have pit vents? I read some reviews saying it doesn't, but it might be an older version of the jacket.
Thanks for the notes Tuxedo! A couple add-on questions:
1. I agree 50 ft of paracord is overkill. Have you ever hanged your food on a tree? Or do you just hang your food in the shelter?
2. What...
Thanks Johnsey. Do you mean the jacket has pit vents but the vents can't be closed? The marmot website needs to add more details... unless I'm missing it.
Hello!
For those experienced hikers, what do you think of the marmot essence jacket? I heard a lot of good things about the marmot mica. How does the essence compare to mica?
Regarding rain...
What do you think of the Marmot Essence Jacket? I saw negative reviews because it has no pit vents.
Also, what do you think of the Marmot Essence Rain Pants?
Thanks!
Thanks! This is tremendously helpful! What would you recommend to add to the summer gears above when the weather gets cold?
Thanks again!
- Do you think a 35F bag is sufficient until October?
- Do you have any recommendation for wind/rain shell top and bottom?
Really appreciate it!
