The rectangular shape adds some weight, but probably saves some labor costs. It also maintains the multi-use function for the JRB...poncho, flat quilt for indoor or outdoor use, etc.

I've never had my feet or shoulders off the JRB underquilt in an HH...it goes all the way to the side tie-outs, and stays high on the hammock all the way above my head and below my feet. I don't know if that's the shape or a size difference...the JRB is 78"x48".

Tightening the end drawstrings all the way will reduce the coverage, and can cause air gaps near the ends. Loosening them a little bit creates a better fit. Loosening them all the way creates ventilation that makes it more comfy between 55-75F (Jack calls this "opening the windows").

My homemade quilts are basically synthetic versions of the JRB ones. Not as convenient or multi-use, though.

More of a nose thing,,,, If I'm laying on or near a product w/ down in it, then my nose stops up, eyes water, sometimes sneezing.

I'd never heard of a down allergy. You can help with my crusade to get someone to make synthetic commercially.

Hey Patrick,, let's start a business,,,, James&Patrick's-R-Better (just kiddin Jack's),, specializing in synthetic underquilts. It seems like we would have an edge on the competition, since there is none. Ya know, I'm mostly kidding, but my entrepreneurial spirit is saying,,, hhhmmmmmmmm.

Yes, pet dander to be specific (less of an allergy for dogs, thank goodness, cause I have 2 yellow labs), & pollen, dust, molds. I think the down allergy is in the same family as pet dander. Who knows, but we (me & down) don't like each other.

NOOOOO!!! I'll have to carefully check and see if I have the allergy... yeah- dogs is less, high altitude is less.

if I am, oooh. perish the thought.
