    Default Cloths List

It seems like there is always lots of discussion about the "big 3", but interesting for me my cloths are the category that weighs the most ( beside food/water ). I would like to get some input on my planned cloths. My hike is planned for the mid August time frame and I will be wearing REI convertible pants/shorts, dri-fit t-shirt, ball cap, bandana, Champion UW, Wigwam socks, rei liners, salomon trail runners. Rain Gear not included is Frogg Togg top no bottoms. My cloths to carry are:

    1. Montbell Wind Shirt: 2.5oz
    2. Wigwam Socks: 2.7oz
    3. REI Sock Liner: 1.9oz
    4. Champion UW: 3.4oz
    5. Nike Gym Shorts: 6.4oz
    6. Dri-fit Short Sleeve T-Shirt: 6.5oz
    7. Heat32 Long Sleeve T-Shirt: 5.0oz
    8. REI Long Sleeve Button Up Shirt: 8.5oz
    9. Terramar Long UW: 6.2oz
    10. Zpack Fleece Beanie: 1.0oz
    11. Head Gloves: 2.3oz
    12. Sierra Design Gnar Lite Down Jacket: 11.4oz
    13. S2S Ultradaypack Stuff Sack: 3.0 ( will use to summit Mt. Whitney ).
    14. Croc Knock off camp/water crossing shoes: 11.9oz

    Total Weight: 72.8oz

I hiked it last year mid August & I'm hiking it again this mid August ( hopefully we'll cross paths). I don't weigh my cloths but here's what I bring. 1 short sleeve dry tech shirt, 1 pair convertable pants,1 running shorts, 2 wicking boxer briefs, 1 patagonia fleece, 1 rain jacket/wind shell,1 marmot Zues down jacket, 1 neck gaiter/also used as a hat,i pair of fleece gloves. 2 pairs of short Thorlo running socks. I use trail runner so I don;t carry camp shoes. Have a Great Hike!! ~boots~

hey wornout boots, thanks for the compairison. Looks similar to mine. Maybe will see you on trail...faxed app yesterday and should know Monday on permits. I know I could go with only one pair shorts and one t-shirt, but for sure I want something to swim in, sleep in, "town in" so 6.5/6.0 oz is ok for me. Can't do without camp shoes and I've tried everything and about 12oz is best I can do.

While not specific to the JMT, this is what I normally take on trips into the High Sierra from June to September. I've seen it snow in every month of the summer in the Sierra Nevada over the years. However, if only going out for 2-3 days when the forecast is known to be good, I may drop a few layers.

    Carried:
Terramar LW HelixCrew LS (M) 5.4oz.
Terramar LW Helix Pants (M) 4.9oz.
Zpacks CF Rain Jacket (L) 4.7oz.
MLD eVENT Rain Mitts (M) 0.9oz.
    MH PowerStretch Balaclava 1.3oz.
WM Flash Vest (L) 4.6oz. (more for a pillow then cold weather)
2 pairs of WrightSocks (Low Runner) at 1.1oz.
Montbell Tachyon wind Jacket (L) 1.8oz.
    Zpacks CF Rain Skirt 1.1oz.
Simblissity UL Bug Head Net 0.4oz.
    MSR UL Towel(sm) 0.6oz.

Worn (all treated with Permithrin for the bugs):
    REI Sahara Conv. Pants 12.6oz.
RR River Madison LS Shirt(M) 6.6oz.
    ExOfficio Lo Briefs 2.0oz.
    WrightSock (Low Runner) 1.1oz
    Tilley LMT6 Hat 3.5oz.

I may be out on the JMT and the Tahoe Rim Trail over the summer if I have to split my 4 weeks of vacation in half (none taken last year) instead of taking 4 straight weeks to continue the AT south from Mass. Though the nights are colder, my own preference to hike in the Sierra Nevada is in September after Labor day.
