Info: I am solo hiking at the moment but I hope to join people on this forum or on the trail. This is my first time backpacking in a deciduous Biome, I have spent about 3 months backpacking around the grand staircase. At the moment I think I would rather have the Mormon crickets and scorpions as opposed to the Mosquitos and black flies I have heard about in the northern parts of the trail. I am very excited to get on my way and I hope to become friends with many of you along the way.

I am currently on my 3rd tour of duty over in Afghanistan (this time as a contractor) and I thought what better way to celebrate coming back home then to thru hike the Appalachian Trail. Its been on my bucket list for awhile now and I look forward to crossing it off the list! I am bringing my 2 yr. old dog Luna with me. She is well prepared for this adventure. I grew up hiking the AT in the white mountains of NH and she has gone on many overnights with me. She's well trained and extremely friendly. I am heading South bound because of my intended start date due to my arrival back in the states. July 1st at the latest!

Approach Trail: Yes but slackpacking it
I will be hiking this with my Dad, who has waited until retirement to be able to achieve this dream of his. I hiked Springer to Hot Springs in '07, and Hot Springs to North of Damascus in '08 with a good friend. It will be interesting to see what has changed, apart from me.
