    Default Barkley article

    Interesting article on the Barkley.

A combo of an ultra, adventure race and self-inflected torture. Only 12 ppl have finished the race (including Brian Robinson)

I remember reading about this event several years ago. Looks like it is getting more press if a documentary is about to be released.

Wow! That's something I would have loved to try in my USMC days but at 50 I have a low tolerance for BS.

Mags- this link is right up your alley-http://www.geoffreybakerphotography.com/?page_id=1719

    The best site- http://www.mattmahoney.net/barkley/

I don't know why- I am not a runner in any way shape or form but I am strangely compelled to attempt this race at some point in my life.

"If the Barkley Marathon is the race that eats it's young, I advise all finishers (such as me) coat themselves in syrup of ipecac prior to starting the race, in order to be themselves less appetizing." Nickodeamous Hollon XIII

Those are some amazing photos! Thanks for sharing. I may have to steal that idea for future hikes.

That fella has a few tricks worth stealing- but I always thought that series was one of the coolest before and after sets period. Especially Brett Maune.

There now exists the Barkley Fall Classic which will take place this fall. It's 50K(ish) course at Frozen Head State Park that has some of the character of the Barkley Marathons. It sold out all 300 slots in a couple days for the inaugural event. I feel fortunate to have gotten a slot.
