I am leaving Springer on April 15. I have a North Face 20 degree bag OR a marmot 40 degree w/ a fleece liner. Which should I take? Looking at the average temps and I seem to be right in the middle of the two. Thanks.

I would need the 20 for at least another month. Do you sleep warm or cold?
Take the 20.
you left to walk the appalachian trail
you can feel your heart as smooth as a snail
the mountains your darlings
but better to love than have something to scale

I sleep warm, I will also have fleece pant and jacket to sleep in. I am leaning towards the 20, "travel light freeze at night". Thanks
I would carry the 20 until probably mid may to be safe.
20 degree for sure. I was on Springer last April 15th and it was at freezing more that a few nights. I carried a Zpack 30 degree and a couple nights I had on my mid weight merino tops and bottoms, my nano puff jacket and sleeping hat with sleeping socks as well. I wasn't cold but it sure would have been nice to crawl into a 20 degree bag.
I came off the trail at the NOC so didn't make it into the smokies but mid may in the GSMNP can still be chilly. I'm not a big fan of liners anyways....
