    Default A.T. Inspired dog names

I just adopted an amazing Aussie! I can't wait to start hiking with him. I need to come up with a name for him. Suggestions? Something earthy, A.T. inspired would be great. Thanks

Interesting Idea - check the member names list...
Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them.

It might not work with an Aussie (too smart), bit friends of mine used to change their dog's name every few days. He never noticed. You could start him off as Springer, switch to Smokey, and work you way up to Baxter.

Man, I like that idea...probably more about tone anyway.

We've had a "Pisgah" and a "Tsali". The first named for a mountain, and the second for a Cherokee leader. The next dog may be "Katahdin", who knows...

I just adopted a chocolate lab. I named him Ranger. I hope to do a lot of hiking with him.

The place I stay in Mass once had a huge white Shepard named "Bear" (since deceased ).

The place is only 1/2 to 3/4 mile to the trail from the woods. I would let him off leash until we got closer to the actual AT, and then leash him.

Startled hikers a few times with me coming out of nowhere yelling ....."Bear...Bear...Come here Bear"
The trouble I have with campfires are the folks that carry a bottle in one hand and a Bible in the other.

I remember a hike where we had high hopes of seeing a bear, but never did. We saw other creatures, of course, and finally decided to name a lizard "Bear". That way we could truthfully report that we saw a bear on our trip. A small scaly bear with a long tail. That wasn't cheating, was it?

I love all of the ideas! Bear made me chuckle! I think we settled on Jed (Tennessee Jed)
