How about "Spot," short for Beauty Spot (as opposed to the Spot devices)?

Actually, a better one using an AT place name is Big Butt. But I also like Saddleback.

One syllable names are commonly used for sheep dogs (such as an Aussie) so the handlers could quickly call out commands for individual dogs. Have you seen the movie Babe where the boss calls out "Away to Me Fly, Rex Come By". Rex and Fly are the dog's names and Away To Me and Come By are commands that tell the dogs which way to circle around the flock of sheep (Come By = clockwise / Away to Me = Counter or anti clockwise). Rex runs off to the left and Fly runs off the the right to drive the sheep back to the boss.

But for hiking use, I vote for Doyle.
