    Default Winter PCT hike

This will be an interesting one to follow. Usually the winter PCT discussions are started by the clueless. This hike is being done by Trauma and Pepper. They started October in Canada so it not exactly a winter hike yet. And they are moving at a very fast pace so it is more likely to be a winter JMT hike which I believe both have have already done.

I luv it! They can pull it off. I wouldn't bet against either one if they keep there feet from falling off. Beautiful pics of the PCT not usually seen in those conditions.

This will be a great hike to follow along with. As much as FKT's are exciting- I hope we see more trips like this- regardless of how the weather shakes out. Limits are not only measured by the clock, and my generation needs more hikers like these fellas.

I'm just wondering how they are going to get from Carson pass to Kennedy Meadows.
That's about 500 miles with no resupply, once Tuollume closes along with Red's Meadow.
I imagine they will be able to snowshoe out around Reds, to cut it to only 350 miles.
But that's a long way between resupply.
I just know that I can't carry more than 12 days food (and that's food I don't like)
(probably less now but, that was in my prime.)
And on snowshoes, I doubt they can do 500 miles in 12 days.
    But we'll see.
But, yes, great pics, and awesome adventure.
Don't let your fears stand in the way of your dreams

I will not get into guessing their logistics but this I know. It will be easier in some ways than the 2500 mile Great Himalayan Trail Trauma did. Still gottta do it though. Justin has thrued the PCT before so I know he's quite aware of what can possibly/likely be ahead even in this winter season. Ballsy. What an experience. I'm envious. I'll stick to bushwacking in Hawaii this winter though. Godspeed to them both.

They plan resupplies at Bridgeport, Mammoth, Bishop, Lone Pine, and Onyx according to the spreadsheet linked to the first page of their blog.

Pretty awesome. I will love following this. You couldn't pay me to do it, but I'm envious of anyone who enjoys this type of challenge.

I feel lazy after reading their updates. Here I sit in my living room watching the snow fall through the window not even thinking of going for a hike. I hope they make it!

    Still going strong...

If you enjoy this journey consider supporting Trauma and Pepper by purchasing one of Trauma's books-

Both books were once or still are part of my ultralight library collection.

Good books as well, especially Mike's.
That said, to the best of my knowledge none of them will put a penny in Trauma or Pepper's pocket.

That is huge. It's all downhill from here.

Winter hiking long distance is not easy! Going over Forester is a huge accomplishment!

So I have to ask, how is their progress being tracked? I'm old school so the though of someone being able to track someone hiking progress is something I'm not use to.

Amazing ... barring injury they should definitely be able to finish now right? Well, I guess there are places in Southern California that are high but after what these guys have been through I can't imagine that would stop them!

in scott williamson's interview on trailcast he talks about his early attempts at the pct yoyo and how much snow he had to deal with before even reaching kennedy meadows and how draining it was. san jacinto and baden powell immediately come to mind, but i'm sure there are many less significant areas that look a lot different in february than in may. they have plenty more to slog through. but trauma and pepper had foreseen the high sierra as the major crux to the success of the trip, and having that behind them is huge.

Over the last couple years CA has been going through a serious drought. The snow Scott was referring to is a lot less compare to when Scott was attempting his yo-yo hike. Scott for those that don't know tried several times before being successfully. I did a 40 mile winter hiking trip climbing up Mount Lassen, CA. It was a tough hiking but still do able.
