Coming over from UK in March/April 2015 to hike the AT , can anyone tell me where I can buy a pair of down pants in Atlanta please?

I find pants work better when they are kept up.

Really though, down pants are probably overkill. You're hiking in the southern US at the end of winter, not mountaineering in the Rockies during winter. If they work for you then go for it but I'd recommend some research to make sure they are necessary.

One idea how to get your down pants is to have them shipped to whoever is giving you a ride to the trailhead. I'm sure if you ask they will be happy to hold any packages for you. The best piece of equipment in my backpack is my down pants. I will use them all year long because in the summer I will sleep in them instead of a sleeping bag. I'm also okay with being just a light backpacker and not a ultra light backpacker. I sure do love to be comfy and warm.
