    Default How to start planning?

When I completed the AT in 2013, I thought I was forever done with long distance hiking trails. Hiking the AT was my passion, I did it, and that was that. At a 2013 AT hiker pre-Thanksgiving gathering last week, however, the PCT came up in conversation. I'm now thinking that maybe I do have another long distance hiking trail in my future, but am wondering what's the best way to start learning more about the PCT. Anyone able to recommend some good PCT reading? I plan on looking at Trail Journals and WhiteBlaze, but am wondering what other sources would contain information. Winter in VT is long, and I'd like to use the time for some PCT research/daydreaming. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I've found Yogi's PCT guide to be very useful for my planning for next year. http://www.yogisbooks.com/

But Yogi's Guide is probably something to read once you are pretty sure about hiking the PCT. If you're looking for a book regarding a thru hiker experience, I liked The Last Englishman: http://www.amazon.com/The-Last-Engli.../dp/B007EDIAY4

And here is a great PCT blog from 2013: https://mexicotocanada2013.wordpress.com/

Also, Rocket Llama and Carrot Quinn have good trail journals from 2013. I have a journal from then too, for what it's worth.

Yogi's guide is the number one best, most concentrated way to start planning and researching. The Mags Quick and Dirty guide that's linked to at the top of the WhiteBlaze PCT forum is helpful too and links to other resources.

Mags of Whiteblaze has a very nice 'Quick and Dirty Primer' for the PCT. See here...

By far my favorite PCT journal.

it is more of a novel than a short story but Funnybone is certainly entertaining.

I tried to list all the sources we used on planning our 2014 PCT thru-hike here: http://trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=477103

The other prep entries to the journal discuss gear, food, resupply, Sierra Plan, training and San Diego hosts.

The PCT can be a great trail. Have fun!

10-K just did the PCT this year. I'm sure if you PM him, he would give you lots of info and good tips on that trail
