Bob Peoples and I stopped by for a short visit today, and a visit or a card would certainly brighten his day. Thanx Wolf for letting folks know about this.
If anyone know Mala's mailing address, could you please send it to me in a PM.
After reading about Mrs. Baggins surgery, I thought about Mala and am wondering how he is doing.

he's still in the VA hospital in Johnson City, Tn.. they're trying to get him well enough to start chemo. he's hangin' in there
Wolf. You stated that Mala is a Vietnam Vet. If he not already aware of the Agent Orange presumpative diesease he may want to see if his cancer is one of those listed. If it is, he may be entitled to VA compensation and care if he wants to use the VA.
I was not aware of the Agent Orange Presumpatives and only found out because of a non vet friend of mine. My Prostate Cancer is on the list as are many others. Also, if he was in the Marines and stationed at Camp Lejuene he may want to check out the Toxic water list of about 15 diseases presumed to be caused by the poisoned water there.

RIP Mala. Not sure I ever met him, but I've heard stories...
Sorry to hear. May he rest in peace. Now he will be a trail angle forever.

Met Mala many times at the trailhead in Manchester, VT. He kept telling me this was his last year...but every summer Mala would show up again offering assistance to hikers. RIP to one of the real good guys on the AT.

Mala was one of the most helpful people I met on the trail in the early 2000s. Always kind and always friendly. Last time I saw him was a few years ago in Vermont at a trail crossing, still helping out. Never could bring myself to eat one of his green pancakes at Trail Days though!
Go rest high on that mountain Mala, your work here on earth is done..........
RIP Mala.....
