I will be doing this across 14 states (Georgia to Maine) with nothing but my 55 lb backpack, and a vision.
    And a hernia.

The trouble I have with campfires are the folks that carry a bottle in one hand and a Bible in the other.
You never know which one is talking.

The truss is probably added into the weight.

I'd like to see a gear list.

Wait - $1500 for a thru? Everything that is needed for a thru PLUS camera gear ?!?!? What the hell am I doing wrong?

My skepticism meter just pegged out.

    Good luck on her, though.

Maybe she means scurvy? If you don't eat enough limes, that could be a problem.

Perhaps she should put that $1500 towards a pre-medicine course that includes lectures on disease vectors and how to tell ticks from mosquitoes.

While she may have the vector wrong at least she recognizes Lyme is more dangerous than bears. She is ahead of 99% of the general population as far as risk assessment.

What about a tick biting you off the bear that just attacked you?

She also says she doesn't like being in videos...so naturally we should fund the one she's trying to make. And as for the $1500 she says she has other sponsors.

"Giardia- A dangerous virus from tainted water sources."

So now lyme disease comes from mosquitos, and giardia is no longer a parasite...time to re-write the bio textbooks.

She mentions "The Thru-Hiker Syndicate" which is a group sponsored by Vasque.

It looks like she's done some section hiking, so she isn't entirely clueless, but all the mistakes she's made in the presentation is troubling. The 55 pound pack statement had me scratching my head. Sounds like she wants the money for more camera equipment and food.

I got a kick out of her "rewards". Writing your name in a shelter register and taking a photo of it. Okay, I suppose that's all that 10 bucks is worth Oh well, wish her luck though I doubt she'll rise the $1500.

It's embarrassing how easily people turn to these kickstarter things these days. There was a 15 year old at my local climbing gym who made one asking for $7000 to go hike Mt. Denali... Kickstarter should be for medical emergencies, houses burning down etc. Asking for money for personal endeavors is just preying off people's kindness. I root for stuff like this to fail. Make the sacrifices you need to make this year so you can do it next year. Earn it like the rest of us.

A grandmother on my Facebook friends list wanted everyone to contribute to her grandson's Kickstarter to fund his AT thru hike. I didn't say anything, but I didn't contribute either. I can't believe people want others to fund their vacation.

There looks to be 42 projects with Appalachian Trail in the name on Kickstarter. 18 were funded successfully with some big dollars. Pretty good odds. Can't blame her for trying. It seems more and more people are looking for a free vacation.

Actually it has worked. In 2012 a guy used kick-starter to fund his book based on his AT thru. He successfully raised over $9,000 dollars. I never did see the book published but he could have self published to satisfy his backers. Here is the link to his kickstarter fund. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...yssey?ref=city
