    Default Georgia Section Hike

Hi All, I'm travelling south from Trail Days Sat. afternoon to start at Springer and head north for eight days. I've done from Erwin, Tn. north to southern Vt. and was wondering how Georgia compares to that part of the trail. I usually average 18 to 22 mile days. Will that be doable in GA.? Does anyone know the condition of the dirt road at Blue Ridge gap and if all the state forest roads are open in the area? My wife may meet me there. Thanks, Iceman

Georgia has some steep hills, tough for a new hiker, but probably no big deal for you, might slow you down to 15-18 mpd. I'm comfortable saying it's similar in difficulty to southern Vermont.
I always thought those USFS roads were just closed in the winter - but I don't know that for sure.
    Enjoy your hike!

For road condition, best to check with a local shuttler, maybe Joyce and Sally 706-896-9339. Been a while but it was in poor shape last time I went.

Georgia is about the same difficulty as Virginia.

Check with the shuttler, but the road to Blue Ridge Gap is very difficult nowadays.

Age 63 and 18 to 22 miles a day? As an old man that brings a smile to my face. Way to go.
