My hiking buddy uses one, mostly for his dog and it seems to work well. I have a tick key and I'm going to get one of the spoons to try because it looks easier, especially if I have to reach to some awkward spot. I would say just stick with a good pair of tweezers, but I got Lyme last year, and I'm pretty certain that it's because someone who was removing a tick from the back of my neck didn't know what they were doing and squeezed the body.
