Thanks Matt. I hope there are updates on something other than facebook since I avoid that site.

This sounds exciting and fun. I would LOVE to run into Scott on the trail, although I'm supposing he wouldn't have too much time to stop and chew the fat...

Judging by his start date it looks like he's going with the "maximizing daylight" strategy, with the summer solstice taking place near his projected mid-point.

Good question. It's not clear to me either what he's up to.

He did post this link on his facebook page with a DeLorme tracker where you can see his current/last reported location. Jenny Jurek also has one too. Providing support maybe? Somewhat low key hike.

Jurek is no joke, that's for sure. Wonder why he's not trying the PCT?? I've been waiting for a big name runner from out West to challenge the supported record on the AT. Exciting stuff! His first day was 52mi and JPDs was 56mi going sobo of course. Looking forward to the next few weeks.

    From FKT-

Scott Jurek embarked on his attempt to break Jennifer Pharr Davis' supported AT FKT today at 5:00AM at Springer Mtn, as announced on his Facebook page, which has a link to his Delorme track: www.facebook.com/ScottJurek
I hope people will post Jurek sightings (with pics!) here. Good luck Scott!

    Here's Scott's Day 1 tweet:

Thankfully for Scott he is a mid-westerner.
I think we can all agree that the best hikers I know are from the midwest.

On a FP photo from his 1st day on the trail Scott reported: "Appalachian Trail Day 1 in the books! Departed Springer Mountain at 5:56am EDT, arrived at Unicoi Gap, 13:16:42 elapsed time. 52.9 miles, 11,400' ascent and 12,100' descent. Lots of fog and a little light rain early, then sun and mega humidity. Finding my groove and feeling good. Patience is key, it's a long way to Maine! Hoping to have live tracking tomorrow."

That is some fast hiking - 4 miles per hour.

According to a comment by Warren Doyle on the same photo Scott is shooting for 42 days.
