    I take it all back.

I see the problem now. I forget some people still wear boots. Other just trudge through in their quick drying trail runners.

Among all the silliness about fording the river, have you all forgotten that the Scott's trail is about 8 miles longer than JPD's?

Curious: it looks like Scott might have forgotten his PLB and left it with his support crew at the Rt. 12 crossing. Looks like they got it back to him at the next crossing at Stage Road. The last return from the beacon is near the top of a ridge east of Pomfret Road, well short of the next road crossing and well short of West Hartford. Will be interesting to see where he finishes tonight. Early to say, but these might be indications that this is taking a toll on him.

PLB now shows him nearing the next road crossing at Cloudland Road. That's some kind of late finish! He's completing another high 40's day. The projections to NH 25A for tomorrow night look pretty sound.

I was curious about this, too. your explanation makes perfect sense to me. Looks like he's stopped for the night at Cloudland rd, which looks to be about a 48 mile day, but it sure was a long one, I don't think he stopped until after 1 am. will be interesting to see his turnaround time for tomorrow.

I really am curious what happened in the early days to put him in the negative so much; however, his recovery is absolutely amazing. It makes you think, where would he be today if he just stayed on pace in that section, not do anything big, just stay on pace. I thought in the beginning that 42 days was way too optimistic (actually I thought it was a joke), but now I do believe he could have done it.

If this keeps attracting the big guns in the sport I can see breaking the 40-day barrier (I use that term loosely -- not sure if the community sees it as an actual barrier).

He had issues with his knee and quad coming through the GSMNP, and adjusted his mileage for a few days afterwards. I think that's also affected the way he's chosen to tackle things afterwards in terms of how much he runs vs walks, etc.

And you're absolutely right about the record dropping significantly down the road. Between the lost mileage in the first couple of weeks and the amount of time he spends every day paused to talk to people that come out to meet him, there's a lot of room to push it even further. It may be years later, but I believe see a sub-40 run eventually.

Which means he only had 3 hours of sleep at the most. Maybe he likes running at night with the cooler temps. Looking at the weather map there's a lot of rain in his area this morning but it looks like it's moving quickly.

Also, saw this river rescue in Maine on the news. Hopefully the rivers aren't too high when he gets there.

He made it to Pomfret road by midnight, which is another 3.7 miles. And then continued on to what looks like Thistlehill. But I am not sure anything past midnight should count for day 35.

If he makes it through today the weather will clear for the rest of the week. It's not until next Tuesday that they expect more T-storms around here. But today might be a little rough since it sounds like he's going to be getting into the real mountains now.

I gave a ride to a NOBO the other day who said he had to do a dangerous waist deep river ford and he's 6' 4". I forget where he said it was, but somewhere south of Crawford Notch. And that was before this latest round of heavy rain the last few days.
