Looks like he's working through his injury. Here is an update from Jurek's facebook:

"Appalachian Trail Day 8 update: Yesterday was National Running Day and I found it ironic that I couldn't run. Hope you all ran some miles for me! I had a good time on the trail, started in Erwin, TN at River Rd/Unaka Springs Rd 6:15am EDT, ascent 10,019', descent 6414', 37 miles to Carvers Gap at 9:27pm. 15:12:48 my knee and quad are slowly starting to rebound, it was good to have more ascent than descent. Today is a lot of downhill so we'll see how everything holds up."

not sure who or their competency with the AT, but based on this photo it seems to be associated with his typical sponsors 11391169_10153495555590329_4127436202844477530_n.jpg

If he could make it to Dennis Cove/Kinkora today (38 miles), and Damascus (50 miles) the day after -still on the mend- it would be a hopeful sign.

Only 37 yesterday. Barring some Herculean effort this one is looking to be over.

Read page 129 of the book Born To Run regarding this guy's performance in the 2005 Badwater Ultra-marathon in the Mohave Desert. He is somewhat familiar with adversity:

"By mile 60 Scott was vomiting and shaky. His hands dropped to his knees, then his knees dropped to the pavement. He collapsed by the side of the road, lying in his own sweat and spittle. ....A couple miles back, Scott had tried to cool off by sinking his entire head and torso into a giant cooler full of ice and holding himself underwater until his lungs were screaming. ... For ten minutes Scott lay like a corpse. Then he got up and did it, shattering the Badwater record with a time of 24:36."

That would be 135 miles in 24 hours and 36 minutes. He may not make it on the AT but I doubt he quits easily.

What was the name of those runners you posted once...a video where they run like 400 miles straight. Africans or South Americans maybe.

Its common to get nauseous and start throwing up around 65 miles. This is a phase of a race runners must get thru.

If that movie is "Running on the Sun", I believe that guy puking is named Gabriel from Mexico.
I haven't seen any news on his leaving Carver's Gap, but Will Harlan at Blue Ridge Outdoors followed him out of Devil's Fork and wrote an article on SJ.

Yeah, I got my days off. I would think he'll try for Damascus today pending leg issues. I'm headed that way soon.

All I know is OMO and JeffMEH really need to step up their spreadsheet and graphics work.

Damn runners are killing team backpacker on the graphics-

Maybe Lone Wolf can help, he has supported hiking experience and LOVES spreadsheets.
