I am now thinking it was CGI to provide context for the nighttime scene that followed. It will be fun trying to ID priming locations.

Here are a few more screen shots. Anyone know what shelter that is?

In order: Springer plaque, shelter somewhere, some bald along TN/VA border or somewhere in SW VA, Fontana Dam x2.
    The more miles, the merrier!

But the Springer plaque is on a big flat rock outcrop, no bushes.

I think it's the plaque along the road at the bottom of Blood Mtn (north side), if I recall correctly... from some years ago.

The plaque could be any one of 3 or 4 in GA & NC, dressed up for the movie.
The shelter, if it’s real it might be Cold Spring Shelter in NC.

The first thing I noticed in the trailer was that the two were always walking together. That was a rare occurrence in the book.

The shelter in the picture is not Cold Springs shelter. Was there a week ago. It's about the same size and shape, but the setting is vastly different.

I can't speak about the movie, but I read the book years ago and I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little disappointed in how it played out.

The key to read it as a comedy (that just happens be based around hiking), not as a book about hiking, especially thru-hiking.

The shelter looks like one after Wayah bald and just before Copper Ridge Bald IIRC (going North). That said it's been almost 9yrs since passing by, stopped to eat/drink for a few minutes.

    It's gonna be ok.
