What's the right way to measure torso length?
This really depends on the manufacturer. Zpacks has very specific instructions, and they custom make most of their packs to your specific measurement. If you go to an outfitter they can use a torso measuring device, usually provided by one of the major pack makers like Osprey or Gregory, and that will give you some idea, though it's most accurate when buying one of that maker's packs.
Torso lengths versus what is comfortable for you to carry are difficult to confusing.
I have an Osprey, bought from a retail outfitter. He measured me, set the pack (which is adjustable several inches around its normal size), but I have had to readjust it about 1 1/2 inches shorter and it is now very comfortable.
So what it measures and what you measure still don't always match up.
Torso length may not matter in a frameless sack.
Does it have a real belt?
Will it be packed firm wirh ccf structure?
If it just a sack its gonna hang on shoulders no matter. Belt is only for stability.
So, depends on options, and how you will use it.
Under 15 lbs, doesnt matter much
Torso measurements typically go from your C5 (bottom of the neck) to your L5 (top of your butt). Taking a measurement is one step, but as said above, the fitting is key. It can be the perfect measurement, but if you don't feel comfortable, then it's a waste of money.
