Default Anyone use a cheep SOL emergency bivy with tarp?

Anyone tried one of the cheap emergency bivy sack with sleeping bag under small tarp? Was sufficient?

The emergency bivy doesn't breath, so you'll get wet from condensation. Their Escape Bivy, on the other hand, does breath pretty well and will work for what you are suggesting, although I've moved toward no bivy and if their is too much splatter encroachment, I cover the foot of my bag with my pack liner or wrap my ground cloth over the edge of my sleeping bag instead of bringing a bivy.
    I'm not lost. I'm exploring.

I used just a tarp, no bivy and was fine. It hardly rains out there, and even when it did, it was warm.

I don't know when the bivy/tarp combo became a thing or why but it doesn't make much sense to me. A tarp with a polycro groundsheet is nearly always sufficient.

I did see a 2 guys using these last year on the JMT. They worked great for those 2 since we had zero rain for the 3 weeks on the trail
