Good morning, Blazers!
Hope your Sunday is off to a great start. I just watched the sun rise over the lake and enjoyed all the promise of a new day, and I got some great outside plans today, so I hope all of you are planning a great day as well...
When it comes to Trail Journals, I've tried reading them, and even enjoyed some, but over the last couple years I have really become addicted to the video versions of AT journals. I'm sure there are a million opinions as to the best way to chronicle ones journey or to follow someone else, but the videos have become my favorite medium.
And to that end, I wondered if anyone else has found any exceptional trail videos they'd like to share or point out. (Actually, just watched one for the third time last night posted by Weathercarrot - excellent video if anyone missed it: Sticking To It ~ The Appalachian Trail Odyssey )
So, one of my all time favorite video sets on the AT was from a hiker named Loner. Loner was the epitome of the HYOH ideal, and he just seemed to have the greatest time doing it. His hike was back in 2012, but like many AT videos it's truly timeless. Just a very genuine guy out enjoying trail life. The YouTube videos he created are artistic and fun - they can be found here: LONER 2012 Appalachian Trail Thru Hike They are well worth watching.
Also on that note: Teardrop just interviewed Loner a few days ago and posted a video of that on YouTube. Some interesting information came up in that interview that didn't actually make it in to Loner's AT videos (for good reason.) That interview is posted here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXfVIVgKUZA
.
Some more of my favorite journal videos were...
* Red Beard on The AT
* Fatherman on the AT
* 2014 Thru Hikers
* To Katahdin
* HUMP'S 2013 APPALACHIAN TRAIL
* Puma Ghostwalker
These were by no means all of the videos I've watched over the last few years. Heck, I've probably forgotten more of them than I'll ever remember (though, I found many I had forgotten about while searching for some of these.) But these are some of my more memorable ones.
One short video I found to be very creative and really quite amusing was: Isaiah Cooper The Appalachian Trail
.
I've watched (and even own) a vast collection of documentaries and cinema movies based on the trail, as well.
What are some of your favorites? What would you recommend for someone to watch if they wanted to see or learn more about the trail from videos, movies, or documentaries? Did you make your own videos? Did you like MountainSquid's trail maintenance videos? (I sure did!) What other videos would you recommend?
More people than just me will read this thread over time, so please share any videos or movies (and links, if possible) that you enjoyed or thought were important.
.
HAPPY SUNDAY, EVERYONE!
