Hammock use in the GSM

I'll be hiking thru the GSM next month and was wondering what the rules are for hammock use?

It boils down to this, at backcountry campsites you can use a hammock. At shelter sites you cannot use a hammock unless the shelter is full, and of course you have a reservation. But even if the shelter is full you cannot attach the hammock to the shelter itself period, which is a no-brainer rule, but unfortunately there are people out there that don't have brains
