Not an activity for hikers with toothpick arms, and not just the paddling, it's very tough dragging a canoe over obstacles, especially loaded.
The paddling was ok, the river we grew up on is wide and sees a lot of barge traffic. We do day paddling there.

This trip, we walked way more than we paddled. Problem was, we had been told over and over that kayak camping lets you take a few more luxuries so our generally light weight packs were in the 30lb range. Lol. We had checked out the water way about 3 weeks before and it was high and fast. We have since learned that this water way is weather dependent.

Oh well. Live and learn. We agreed that we are die hard hikers.

Paddling, like any activity, can be a strenuous as you make it; then there are the times you must fight the winds and/or currents.
