    Default Salomon Speedcross CS?

I need an opinion on the Salomon CS Speedcross 3 vs non-CS. Do I care? Looking for other opinions/recs on fast drying shoes.

I'd skip it then. Waterproofing does a great job of keeping the occasional splash off the front of your shoe but, in rain or if you have to cross a creek, or if you perspire a lot and water runs down your leg, the waterproofing turns those shoes into a couple of buckets strapped to your feet. Membranes like Gortex work by allowing water vapor to pass while blocking the larger liquid form. Meaning, to get your foot dry, all the water inside the shoe must become vapor before it can permeate the membrane. I'd just as soon have the water gush out and be dry in an hour than walk around in wet shoes all day waiting for the fancy membrane. You're feet are going to get wet no matter what. The real question should be, how fast can I get them to dry out.

I agree. At what point in the winter are trail runners a bad idea?

I will typically move out of runners or trail shoes when there is several inches of snow on the trail and/or I need to use traction devices like microspikes.

I wear Smartwool for socks most always, winter or summer, which manage to keep my feet pretty warm even when wet.
