    Default Big Agnes tent releases

    Hi,

I'm thru hiking the PCT in 2016 and have settled on the Big Agnes Copper Spur UL 1 Tent.

Does anyone know how often Big Agnes bring out new models? I'd hate to buy the 2014 one and have a 2016 one released before I start next year. I did some google searches but couldn't really find much info.

    Thanks very much in advance

If you have a REI near you, buy it there. You can exchange it for the new model within a year.

Buy the one you want now and then use it so much that you are glad you got it and it doesn't matter if a new model is out in another year because the one you have works fine and you've used it lots in the interim.
    I'm not lost. I'm exploring.

To actually answer your questions, my recollection is that the big new product marketing pushes for new 3-season tents seem to be occurring early spring, Feb - April for most of the industry including BA last year.

Thanks so much for your responses. Next Feb-April is probably too long to wait. The tent is on special at a local outdoor store near me so I'll purchase it now and get some use out of it.

BA updated the Copper Spur for 2014... the made it a few ounces lighter than the previous model. I would doubt they would update it again so soon (with possibly the exception of adding the Mtn glow option if they haven't already... but the tents that have added Mtn glow didn't change in specs otherwise.)

The Mtn glow colors were different. More subtle-- grays with just a hint of orange.

Good idea, thanks. I'm in Sydney so I'll shoot them an email.

Hi, in case anyone is interested. BAB got back to me:

"Thanks for contacting Big Agnes. There will be a new Copper Spur for 2016. Details will be released in the coming months."

Come January in the states, they might go on sale enough that you won't care about the model year.
Otherwise if you're watching something popular... look for the reviews and previews that come out from those who go to Winter OR. (outdoor retailer's show)

Mags, for instance, has very cutting edge gear reviews and really ripped out some in depth coverage of last winters OR

Thanks for the tips! I will definitely look into that! I'm still undecided on my replacement sleeping bag so I'm always looking for good review sources.

Campsaver.com has some good sale prices on BA gear this weekend.

Cheers! Funnily enough - after all this I decided to go with a Tarptent. Now just eagerly awaiting its arrival!

Thanks, Franco. I watched a lot of your videos before buying. Super helpful!

    Thanks for that.
Several were made before I became part of Tarptent, I just did them for my own fun.
Still doing them mostly with just one take so not professional at all but saves me time doing them like that.
