Most likely these are the same courses, just that the instructors are volunteering much or all of the time to do them as a donation to BSA. Thus the lower cost to you. I know our local Rescue Squad does a similar for CPR training for groups, basically charging what they have to pay to the organization (Red Cross/American Heart) to issue the card and not for their time/effort as a community service.

It is totally awesome when instructors volunteer their time, indeed! From what I've heard from people who have taken WFA with SOLO (which does almost exclusively wilderness medicine, for 40 years) versus some other big-name orgs (which tacked on wilderness medicine as a side focus), I have not at all found students/graduates of both to say they're the same quality of class resulting in the same hands-on skill sets. But don't take it from me -- here are anonymous feedback surveys of people who have taken classes with multiple different organizations: http://www.solowfa.com/course-review...other-orgs.htm

    Kindly,

I am looking forward to taking this class next week in Charlottesville to renew my certification. If you live in the area, I'd recommend this course and instructor.

    > Oct. 8 - 9 … Ferrum, VA
    > Oct. 22-23 ... Charlottesville, VA
    > Nov. 5 - 6... Richmond, VA
    > Nov. 12-13 ... Washington, DC
