    Default New coating on fabric

A long time ago I made a set of bicycle panniers for myself. Bought the material from Frostline. Remember them? Anyway they got dirty and I put them in the clothes washer. Bad decision, all the coating washed off. So is there anyway to replace the waterproof coating. Will maybe the silicone & mineral spirits thing might work. Do you have any experience in this area.
    Thanks!

Every thing I put inside coated nylon (packs, panniers, etc.) goes in plastic bags. Coated fabric isn't waterproof forever. Panniers are prone to the contents rubbing the coating off.
Trash compactor bags. Roll the tops down like a dry sack.

I would suggest you use a fairly high mineral spirit to silicone mix (something like 5:1) and apply a thin coating because a thick one can peel off very easily.

Thompson water sealer would probably work well.

You could try some of the McNett products: https://www.mcnett.com/gearaid/waterproofing-soak#36241

I used Kiwi brand silicone spray to waterproof the rainfly on a tent...it was so old that the original coating was coming off in sheets...like when you get a really bad sunburn and peel off huge pieces of skin. I set the tent up and put the rainfly on upside down and sprayed it and let it dry overnight and then turned it back the right way until the next time it rained...the tent stayed dry. You can buy cans of Kiwi silicone in the shoe section of Walmart where the shoe polish is. The can says you can use it for tents, shoes, and a whole bunch of other things.

Kiwi and CampDry have both worked for me on rain flies and tent seams. I also have used them on my pack and pack cover.
