    Default DIY Seam Sealer ?

I picked up some GE Supreme Silicone. I know everyone here says to use the Silicone II, but is there any reason I can't use this? It is 100% silicone. The only difference I can see is that it has a 10yr mold free guarantee vs. 7yr for the Silicone II.

    Should be fine.

Too late now, but personally I've had better luck with commercially made sealer then making my own. They get the mixture just right, which I've never been able to do reliably. YMMV And since I don't need all that much of it, it's less expensive too.

I found something one time about using silicone caulk and mixing it with mineral spirits to make a seam sealer.

I mix silicone with Coleman fuel, get the consistency you want then seal away, usually I use a small foam brush.

The Coleman fuel evaporates very fast and leaves no residue, you will have to add more CF as it evaporates from the mix and it will get to thick quickly

A great, cheap alternative is Flowable Silicone Windshield Sealant. Can get it at any auto parts store, small tube is about $3. Make sure to get the flowable type. Goes on easy, works great.

When I bought my Tarptent Squall II some years ago, it came with instructions on using the clear RTV and Coleman fuel mix and a small foam brush. it worked well.

Mix your silicone 1 part silicone to 3-to-5 parts mineral spirits. Adjust for consistency you want. I use thicker on seams and thinner on rest of fabric. Do not put it on too thick, especially on the fabric. Wipe off excess. I've had perfectly good results with DIY to rehabilitate gear.

It is really VERY easy to mix silicone (yes the 100% stuff) with either mineral spirit or Coleman fuel.
Just put a blob of silicone in an empty tuna can or similar add a table spoon of spirit and mix. Keep adding the spirit till is runny.
Problems occur when substitutes are used such as silicone that is not 100% pure and or vegetable or odourless mineral spirits.
