Default Is the A.T. safe for solo women?

Hey guys and gals! Attached is a link to an article regarding safety on the A.T. written by a solo female 2015 thru-hiker. May be a good read to give you (and your family) peace of mind before you hike on. Happy, safe trails!

It is but I would use your judgment just like you would at any other public place.

You may start off as a soloist, and you may remain that way the whole hike but that would be your choice for you are never really alone. The beauty of going solo is that you only have to please one person. You may find someone to hike with and after 3 or 4 days grow tired of their pace, or a habit, or just want to be alone again. Take a zero, continue on when they stop for the day. you have no obligation to anyone but yourself. If you do a journal publish it two or three days behind you or even a week. I will be hiking solo because I am so slo. Use your wits..... I will welcome company for maybe 3 or 4 days who knows....
