I use a full size BIC, it's just easier to use. I do carry a mini as a spare though...

Bear Grylls striker or just a match from a book of matches seems to do the trick for me without getting my fingers too close. Plus Matches are free.

I twisted a piece of zippo lighter wick on the hole in the end of my ti spoon and put a couple of drop of alcohol on it as I'm filling my stove and then light that with my lighter and touch it to the top of my stove. Works like a charm and I haven't yet burned a finger!

Personally, I carry a mini Bic lighter - done and done.

Mini Jet Torch like the one next to the mini bic, holds 2x the fuel and is translucent to see how much fuel is left and is refillable. It's the best way to light esbit, which is known to be "hard to light"

I use small stick matches. I also keep book matches as a backup. When I can find the water resistant book matches fro MREs I get those.

Waterproof, windproof and foolproof. The scout version weighs about the same as a mini bic .

I use the "Mini" version Light My Fire which weighs half of the "Scout" version above.
