Nice gesture.. But maybe better near a major road than at a scenic highlight?

That's the thing with these feeds, they are moving into hiking areas; it's the new normal.

Too late to do anything, the hikers have already been habitualized

The Greeneville Hiking Club also gives fruit and candy. Then hikers leave wrappers and fruit peelings at local shelters. There are 3 shelters on Greene County's section of the AT and not one is ever cleaned up by local club members. Also last fall I was parked on the old logging road which connects Jones Meadow(the trail magic feed location) to the AT.This road is only about 75 yards long.I park there when I do maintenance trips to Jerry's Cabin shelter.Someone from the club left a note on my truck threatening "consequences" if I parked there again. The note said that I was going to cause rutted mud holes by driving about 20 yards down this road.I've been parking there for over 10 years and very carefully backing out and never leaving any ruts.Real nice folks.

And please don't be snobby about "only thru hikers allowed".

A lot (80%) of the wannabe thru hikers are raw newbies who ain't gonna make it, and many of the section hikers have thousands of miles under their feet.

Having said that, 99% of the trail angels are happy to share with anyone on the trail.

I was thinking about handing fruit baskets this year and hire a shiatsu clown that would walk on their sore backs powder thier monkey butt bottoms.

Last year several hikers were camping near the feed area (and made several new campsites with fire rings) so they could get breakfast too.Seems like packing more than 3-4 days of food is too much these days.I wish we had a hundred mile wilderness down here. That alone would thin out the bubble.

Make sure to book a magician to perform as well. After all it IS trail magic.
