Unhappy JMT - 8/3 permit for Mono Meadows to Isberg Pass

    Hi all,
I have a permit to start an alternate JMT hike on 8/3 at Mono Meadows, leaving Yosemite through Isberg Pass and joining the JMT at Reds Meadows. My hiking partner injured her knee. Although I've completed the AT and LT as section backpacks, mostly solo, I don't want to backpack the JMT solo, especially since the alternate route for starting is not as much traveled. I am looking to join another person or group around 8/3 either from Mono Meadows or if you have room on your permit. I would have posted this message on the JMT Yahoo Group but it seems that I didn't sign up for posting privileges and I can't figure out how to change my membership. I'm not on Facebook either. Thanks in advance for suggestions!

The trails out over Red Peak pass and Isberg pass are pretty easy to follow while you're still in Yosemite. Once you hit Ansel Adams Wilderness the trails aren't as well signed, but having a decent map it's pretty easy to find your way. I only had once confusing spot (the bridge over Hemlock) as there wasn't any signage saying which way to Devil's Postpile (Go south, not north!)
It's an amazing hike and very doable solo.

Red Peak Pass and Isberg Pass were two of my favorite spots I've ever been.

    A great mapping resource: https://awhite4777.pythonanywhere.co.../default/start

    Hi Kid,
Thanks for the link to the Sierra Mappers and the tip about going south at the bridge over Hemlock Crossing. I'm set for maps but don't want to hike on my own.

I understand completely It was pretty deserted when I was there last August. I think I saw 6 people total (two of whom were hiking the same route as me) the entire time from Lower Ottoway Lake to Red's.

If that's true, how come you can't hike without a permit and all the permits are used up?
Seems to me that the JMT is one trail where company would be easy to find.
Conversely, if I had everything in place I would go. Life's too short not to go.
    Good luck.

That section was not on the JMT. It was an alternate exit from Yosemite to get a JMT permit from Red's to Whitney. JMT permits are currently limited by the regulation of the exit over Donahue pass.

    Ok. Thanks for the clarification.
    My opinion is unchanged.
