Default Pine Island Vista- Pine Creek Gorge

Over a long Columbus Day weekend I ventured out to finally see a view I've always wanted to see- Pine Island Vista (PA). This view was awesome, it really show the true majesty of the PA Grand Canyon/Pine Creek Gorge. It was totally peaceful and serene as turkey vultures flew above and below me. Fall colors were just beginning to show across the forest. The hike was tough and the climb to the vista from Pine Creek was steep and grueling, but totally worth it. Here the gorge is so narrow, steep, and deep; Pine Creek was hidden in shadows and flowed hundreds of feet beneath me. Pine Island Run is a stunning stream when it has water with several falls, slides, pools, and cliffs. I then hiked along the canyon rim with some more views and a beautiful old growth forest. A challenging, gorgeous hike.

Kc, Sure. North central PA (aka the PA Wilds) is a best kept secret. Tons of parks, trails, and lots of isolation. Vast backpacking opportunities. Dark skies, wild elk, countless gorges, waterfalls, big rocks, etc.

And one of the nice things about Pine Creek Gorge rim is that the trails aren't nearly as rocky as many in PA.
