Just one winning mega mills lotto ticket, please and thank you. That one teeny piece of paper would open many a door.

Based on the thread's subject "The One .. dream backpacking item" - i would have to say "The One" .. except I already have One of the first Ones from 8 years ago. http://gossamergear.com/the-one-shelter.html
Backpacking light, feels so right.
The ability to run uphills
Hiking the AT is “pointless.” What life is not “pointless”? Is it not pointless to work paycheck to paycheck just to conform?.....I want to make my life less ordinary. AWOL
One of them thar fancy light weight chairs.
Why doesn't somebody start making the Sling Light chairs again? Why?
Why didn't I buy one when I had the chance? Dumb !

I really wish I could say yes, but I don't have anywhere near the budget for it right now. A couple years ago I would have jumped at the offer, but now that I have a toddler I just can't justify spending the money. I do appreciate the offer though.
On a side note: At the moment I borrow my buddy's EMS synthetic -20 bag when I need one, so I'm still able to get out when I have the chance. The down side is that the sucker is the size of a bear canister and weighs between 6-8lbs. Scary thing is that my buddy has had that bag down to -40 on Ama Dablam, when I asked him how he pulled that off he said "It's easy you just wear all your clothes inside it."
Colorless green ideas sleep furiously.
A pack llama or alpaca that can be captured into a pokeball when not needed for use on the trails.
Either that or a pack that doesn't constantly dope slap me when my petite self with its short torso walks with my head fully up right.
Oh, and eyesight that doesn't need correction.

I actually just found one of my dream items on ebay for a bargain! An almost new (only 7 trail days per seller) zpacks 20* sleeping bag for $225!!
I guess a new pack is gonna be the next dream item... Hard to justify a heavy osprey pack with UL gear otherwise.
The most expensive backpacking category for me is getting around the world to various hiking destinations.
An airplane or lifetime flight and train travel tickets.
Backpacking gear for the most part is affordable enough unless you're doing more of a climb/backpacking/mountaineering/expedition into cold regions trip like Mt Everest where buying new gear and supplementing with 02 can easily exceed $6-7000(US). The most expensive gear often doesn't qualify as the best gear to me. I have bought a $700 Valandre sleeping bag though(used $475) and considered a Feathered Friends down suit costing $1000.
Do I really need $4000 sunglasses, a $3000 tent, $4000 Navigational tool 99.99 % of the time?
The time was October sometime in the 1980's.
The place was the Vallecito Creek Trail in the Weminuche Wilderness area.
A friend of mine from work and I had driven up from New Orleans and hiking up the trail.
We ran into 2 gentlemen from Houston camped next to the creek. They had a pair of Sling-Lite chairs set up next to a Stephenson's tent. The only time I ever saw either product in person.

A Navy seal to help carry my stuff and to do the thinking and planning so I could just hike !
Nuff Said!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them.
