    Default Snow on trail, Virginia

Looking to do some hiking in late February around the Lexington/Buena Vista area of the AT. Anyone have any experience with snow on the trail in late February? Snow covered, clear?

Good chance there will be snow at higher elevations on Tar Jacket Ridge and Cold Mountain near Buena Vista . If history is any reference February has seen some of the worst weather down here.

There's a big thaw coming, with temps up to 30 degrees above average forecast for multiple days. Unless more winter weather follows quickly, there might not be any snow for awhile.

I would plan on bringing microspikes or yaktracks.

Had wet snow/freezing rain hiking there last year... around May 10
Have a good look at the forecast and ask some locals/organizations about conditions before you go, and you'll know a bit better what you're getting into.
Three springs hostel (I think it's permanently closed, or at least for the season) might tell you how it's looking up their way right before you go. [email protected]
