    Default Tales from the south

Whenever you hear some scary story about a hiker run in with some weird locals, it always seems to be in the southern portion of the trail. Bill Bryson described the folk of the southern apps as 'walking cadavers'. Anyone have any stories/advice for getting out of there unscathed?

I'm from WV, not the south but pound for pound we've got more hillbilly's then anybody. I know some that enjoy messing with hikers. Not anything really harmful (I hope), but that mindset does exist. It's Half curiousity and half fear.

No. All those stories are true. 'Deliverance' was a documentary.

Stay away. It's not safe for you.

Your superior intellect is clearly illustrated by your most eloquent and appropo. response.

I would reccomend a good scatter gun. Fire it in the air once when you see them, and they'll think you're some sort of god.

I've heard of people swerveing their cars towards hikers as if to hit them, making them jump off the road.
