    Great dates, I got them dropped off at my house less than 24 hours from California. They are in the freezer now. Looks like they will cover me for several months.

    Dried fruit does provide fiber, which is often scarce on backpacking menus--sometimes with uncomfortable results. Agree that it's hard to get enough calories in reasonable weight and space without nuts, seeds, and other fat-containing foods. The protein in nuts and nut butters also helps.

    I found that a tight hip belt seemed to offset the lack of fiber, disastrously on a couple of occasions.
