Doing the Approach Trail
Hello,
I hope to set of on foot from Springer in the second week of march (depending on wheather) Its being my goal to hike north bound to maine for the last six years and now i have finally got the green light!! I do most of my hiking on the AT and along many other trails up in the white mountains each year and theres just something about being in the alpine zone that i just love!! Anyways i try to do anywhere between 80 or 100 miles or so each year buts its just never enough.......... I have found alot of good useful information on this site that is really helpful when it come to fine tuning ya gear! I have dropped 6 pounds from my pack weight by just flicking through these forums. Cant tell march to get out there and hope to meet a lot of you hikers along the way.........happy hiking!!!

I don't think anyone I've told yet actually believes me. They must be thinking it will get out of my system before I actually do it. How wrong they are!
Hey all, i'll be 21 when i NOBO in March 08.

April 1st, 2008 or roundabout since it falls on a Tuesday and I want my friends/family to come see us off.
Doing the approach trail, I think? Haven't completely decided.
Hiking with my boyfriend, Adam, no trail name yet for him, either.
Working two jobs until then. And counting down the days until my escape!
Can't wait to meet you all!
Lisa,
Look for Pike County and Boognish (two Athens natives currently in southern VT). They should both be done with their hikes in 6 weeks. You'll smell them. Both should have volumes of wisdom to impart.
Otherwise, see you on/around the 1st.

I'm NOBO from Springer on March 21st, 2008. Looking forward to meeting lots of you on the trail.
Planning to hike the AT starting in GA May 2008. I am planning to be on the trail for about 90 days but not thru-hiking. Plan to stop and stay in hostels every 4th day.

Have been waiting for a response from my job, they have not said anything yet. Have only been talking to them about this for over 2 months now. SOooo, forget them, I have been using up all my vacation time and have a load of sick days to kill off also.
Have no idea what to do when I get back but it'll all fall into place.
Cant wait to meet you all, get to check out all the custom gear I keep reading about. Maybe if i get the bug, I will join some of you with a home made stove! doing the small sections hikes to get ready only makes it harder to wait for the start date to roll around.
As much as I was hoping for 2008, it is now going to be 2009. I am
ready to go now, but money etc not quite there. I do feel like a
caged animal and only the woods will cure that.
I did get to do 2/3 of the Roller Coaster in July with my sister,
ending up in Harpers Ferry. Great time!
Looking forward to the Gathering!

I will be hiking the Batona trail Septmeber 20 and the black forest trail October 8th if anybody in the northeast is interested. e-mail me at [email protected]
I thought I had already signed into this thread, I must be thinking of another, anyhow...
I'll be starting from Springer about the 1st of February (maybe earlier, maybe later) and taking it slow for the first month as it warms up. I will be driving up on FS42 and then walking the BMT for the first 280 or so miles until I get to Davenport Gap on the north side of the Smokies - then I will link back up and finish on the AT. I've already section hiked all the AT south of Davenport Gap anyway.
Keeping my journal here as a test of the new WhiteBlaze journal software. I'm look forward to meeting you guys out there next year.
