just eat lots ov gallic and chill in the fire smoke and wont need any bug netting .... unless your one of those flat lander who cant handal being in the outdoor's .... but in that case you probly wouldent be up in maine on the trail

What is the worst time of year for the flies?

If the hundred or so red bumps on my skin under my hairline on the back of my head are any indication I'd say its about now... and that was just from a short day hike in BSP a few days ago. Last year after the same thing about this time I vowed I'd get a short haircut and wear one of those stupid looking nets over my head... but I didn't.

I don't know who told you that. Blackflies do bite and when you run into them you just don't run into one you run into a swarm.
