So, I won't be going back to trailplace.com anytime soon.
Don't know why people want to talk about personalities rather than the trail. But if you're going to criticize Trailplace at least be honest about it.

You registered 8/14 and made 6 posts thru 8/27. And you visited there TODAY 15 minutes ago.

So if its sooo bad why the return visit?

From trailplace: There are currently 3 users and 14 guests online, for a total of 17 people online. Most ever online was 32 on 9-22-2003 at 9:26 PM.

The ATC has an information package that it sends to prospective thru-hikers. The ATC recommends Warren Doyle's ATI, ALDHA's Gathering, and the at-l's RUCK to 'newcomers'. All topics BANNED by Wingfoot on TrailPlace. Similar TrailPlace propaganda has been posted on both TrailJournals and WhiteBlaze - although both are BANNED from being mentioned on TrailPlace.

And as far as getting to the top of the web searches - you can embed code (several thousand mentions of 'Appalachian Trail' on your splash page), or simply pay (Google, Lycos) to be placed higher. 'Hits' and web counters are easily faked just by running a script or refresh-bot. I've always said that Wingy is an excellent webmaster.

Come on, Max.. I think it's pretty obvious that the gist of Dionalaniz's post is that he no longer contributes to trailplace because he felt he was censored unreasonably. Did you really think the point of his post was simply to say that he has never since pointed his browser to that site..?

Your detective work and accusation of dishonesty just comes off as mean and out of left field..

Dionalaniz's post simply describes an experience on the trailplace forum that has also happened to others. It seems that most folks who frequent this forum recognize that Wingfoot is indeed an expert on long distance hiking and the popularity of his guide speaks for itself. His forum is “his” forum and if he wants to exercise strict control over forum topics then that is right. However, this strict control and the frequency in which he exercises his power of deletion has obviously put off some people, including me. And I’m not talking about offensive or harassing posts. A responsible forum moderator should step in and remove those.

Max, could you check to see if I've been to trailplace lately. Also, please rat me out if I've been to any X-rated sites.

    Absolutely. Thats what he said.

I don't care who goes or doesn't go to Trailplace. The point is that by lying dionalaniz totally invalidated the point he was trying to make. Regardless of how one may feel about Wingfoot (and lets face it, most of the information about him is 2nd hand stuff circulated on the internet by people who have never met him) the fact is that his website is a valuable resource for those looking for information about section or thru hiking the trail. dionalaniz proved that point by continuing to visit Trailplace despite his personal feelings about the webmaster and how the site is administered.

By the way, no great detective work was involved. I just happened to be at Trailplace the same time he was and recognized the name.

One last point; except to mention his handbook, there is no really no reason to talk about Wingfoot or any personalities on this site. I will never start a thread about any individual person, however, I will step in when inaccuracies or lies are spread.

This comment is phrased in a manner that you'll understand, as it's obvious that unless things are spelled out you lack the cognitive ability to grasp them.

You're just as much of a *.*.*.*.ing whacko as wingfoot is.

dude - max patch. you're being totally unreasonable and you know it. This post came up and other posts talking about google searches and what comes up when one type "appalachian trail" into google. So, yes - i clicked the trailplace link that happened to come up in google or on this site.

By saying that i'm "lying" about returning to his site you're just digging yourself in a hole. I did, and will still visit trailplace for the following reason:

    1. See if wingfoot has added any new hilarious rules as to what constitutes properly hiking the A.T. I do enjoy reading his "commandments" of A.T. hiking and his image of himself as Moses coming down from the mountains with his commandments is very funny. I like reading his commandments and seeing him all alone in the prison of his commandments.

    2. Marvel at the paucity of activity on his site and ruminate on its cause - viewing himself as the A.T. Moses.

    3. I'm bored as **** at work cause i'm leaving on my thru-hike in 3 weeks and i'll look at just about any non-porn internet site while at work to wile away the time.

Clearly, in my previous I was meaning "I will not go back to his site as either a meaningful contributor or a genuinely interested listener". But thanks max patch for showing to all here *EXACTLY* why I will not be visiting trailplace in any capacity other than to observe the lunatic AT Moses preaching on the side of the road.

Oh - and wingfoot has a kick ass trail guide. I'm definitely using it on my upcoming thru-hike.

Google lists site by relavant links of other sites of the same nature. Meaning the more sites that link to yours the better the placement. Also Google has problems reading the scripts on the frontpage portal since the html with "Appalachian Trail" is not on the opening page and in a php file instead. Putting Appalachian Trail ahead of WhiteBlaze in the title bar is a good idea also.

To find out more about site optimazation go to Zeal.Com and become a member, you will have to pass a site optimazation test before becoming a member. The test alone is a good education and not easy.

To charachter assasian someone else, shows poor charachter of yourself. Its even worse when done to someone that has done nothing wrong to you.

There is no character assassination going on here. All I did is mention a factual experience I had on Wingfoot's site. I talked about a certain subject on his site (triple crown) and was informed that if i talked about this subject or any other subject on a long list of unsanctioned topics I would not be allowed to participate in the forum.

No one is saying Wingfoot doesn't have a right to set up a website and rule over his kingdom however he wants. But when he rules his kingdom with an iron fist intolerant of any dissent whatsoever he should not be surprised when people leave his kingdom muttering "man, that guy is pretty lame. he needs to chill out".

I don't know anything about the guy personally. He may be a great guy. And, for sure, he's got the best and most convenient AT guidebook on the market no doubt. But he does rule his forum with the iron fist of a dictator who tolerates no difference of opinion.

I must appologize to StevieRay. I thought that he was Wingfoot in disguise. I was wrong. Winfoot would never use the word "assasian".

I'm with Lone Wolf. I think Stevie Ray is one of the many alternate personalities of Easy. His last post discusing links sure sounded familiar.

The responses from Stevie Ray are way to coherent for Easy. Who was the dude the "quit" the board a while back and erased all of his messages?

StevieRay882 a/k/a Sarah posted an identical plug for Wingy on the Trailforums site yesterday.

Dressing as StevieRay, he posted this gem in the "Moose" thread in the wildlife folder yesterday:

"I remember the little bushy area near a marsh, I caught a carp with my teeth, I surfaced shook my head vionetly spat the fish out for the Disney Folks and went back about my bottom feeding."

Yes it seems Disney has joined forces with
Peta (People of the Ethical Treatment of Animals) hence the reason for spitting the fish back out. Their anti-fishing campaign is just a little to much I'd say.

Easy could write coherently when not "medicated".
