    Thumbs up New Alabama Forum

    Hey Guys and Gals,
Just want to drop a note to everyone to let you know that those local to Alabama or those interested in hiking Alabama now have a new forum site they can check out.

    http://www.alatrails.com/

    Thanks

    Matthew

We aren't associated with any one club and there aren't any alabama specific forums to my knowledge. At least none that are current and active.
    I appreciate your interest though.

I am not trying to argue with you but did you happen to notice that Alabama Hiking Trail Society has moved and is no longer maintaining the first post. If you look here
    http://www.alabamatrail.com/
it tells you about the new site

and al.com is a great resource which I myself am a member of. I also know several of the people who develop for AL.com and would never do anything to jeopardize their business. I have done freelance work for them in the past.

What we are trying to create for alabama is a central hub of communications for all of the various groups and factions of hikers and backpackers that they can call their very own.
I personally hope that it does nothing more than bring people together and allow them an open, democratic medium for sharing ideas and growing our community.

    Thanks Again
    Matthew

Matthew, the forum looks good. There's always room for one more. Variety is good!

AHTS allowed one member to create their forums, that person is no longer around, therefore the fourms for AHTS have gone.

AHTS, a very active state wide group has over 500 members, 200 active members and they are found at hikealabama.org.

There is not too much acitivity on the forums that already exist, how much activity do you expect to get?

Why do you care how much activity is expected? If you're not interested in another forum, then so be it. But I wouldn't continue to sound off about it.

Any acitvity is appreciated, but however much traffic is needed to provide a means of communication for the hiking and backpacking communities in Alabama is ultimately our goal.

You seem to know a great deal about the backpacking/hiking culture of AL. We are grateful for all your input.

Not "sounding off" about it. Just trying to get an understanding of how much traffic they are expecting.

    Ewk, to me it does.

There are a couple of forums specific to our state that MAY get 2 posts a month. To me, thats of no use. I like places that are active, like here and Solo's site...

Ewk, its link is in post #4...

    Thats run by Solo.

As a side note, alabamatrail.org and alabamatrail.com are 2 different sites, not related whatsoever.

Why does http://www.alabamatrail.org/ point to alabamatrail.com? If you go to the url there it actually has a link to it right on the page?

    It say's and I quote"

    Welcome to Hiking Alabama!
The Alabama Hiking Trail Society website has moved.
To get more information on the Alabama Hiking Trail Society, please visit the new site: www.alabamatrail.com

    "

I mean it just seems that if the 2 are not related they sure do seem to be handing the baton pretty well.
    This is all very confusing.
I actually coresponded with Joe from AHTS and he put a link up to AlaTrails in the links section for me. I will have to ask him about this. The last thing I want to do is step on any toes.

I will say that is news to me... I dont check either of those sites any more due to the problems/lack of info they had before. I love the AHTS site, too bad we cant combine their site and your forums. Now that would be a good thing!
