Okay, I admit it... I took a look. I'm desperate for info on the Bartram Canoe Trail. And this is the first thing I see:

Good site. I needed something like this back in 2000 when I was trying to find out stuff about the Pinhoti.

Give 'em time. The site has been there maybe a month? So far it looks good to me, and more are signing on every day. Get in there and ask about canoeing. Maybe someone already there, or will be there soon, can give you just what you want.

Im planning on doing the Bartram Canoe trail with Hammock Hanger sometime in the near future. I called the state office, and they sent me the maps for the trails for free!

those uprights on that pictured campsite look to be just about perfect for hammocks - I wonder if the designers considered that use when they were built.

Hey Cuffs - I'm going to be down your way (sort of) this weekend - going to be camped on Caney Creek near the Sipsey.

Yeah its another TT bushwhack but this year we have a very reasonable hike into the basecamp - don't want another broken leg as happened to Chili last year plus we wanted to make sure Stove Stomper could make it - he is still a bit off of hiking shape since his stroke some months ago.

And what hiking club is this associated with? Aren't there enough Alabama forums already?

Matthew, the forum looks good. There's always room for one more. Variety is good!

    Classy response, godseye.

I think what Cuffs was trying to say is something I had a problem with. I was trying find info on the Pinhoti and was overwhelmed with all of the conflicting and outdated info. I felt like a fool when I finally emailed Solo and asked him where I could find maps/miles for the Pinhoti. (Best site, Solos', I found but still trying to figure out the different milage's for the same walk on different sites). It's nice to go to one place like the Florida Trail and have one place to get info - though it's still a lot of work to figure out the mail drops/ resupplies/ water etc for a long walk.

And I agree that godseye responses have been well done as have the others. Good forum!

I will not bore you with the history of individual hiking clubs in Alabama and how some have been formed just to be an umbrella over the others. Also, several people have tried what Cuffs proposes. The following links, especially the one n the Pinhoti Trail Alliance, give you a lot, and I do mean a lot, of information on the main trails. Please provide at least these links on your forum to help people find them. There is no way a new forum can develop the information already available. If you look at Solo's site, Pinhoti Trail Alliance, you'll find that he provides any links found to help people navigate the abundance of sites. You migh alos want to throw in the Sipsey Wilderness Hiking Club.

I have no interest other than I use the trails and believe the sites I provided give very good and reliable information. Solo has run a measuring wheel twice on the Pinhoti.

No problem. The links section is pretty extensive and I will make sure these get in there.

Fresh out of the green stuff. However, if we do it at a time when Jed is unavailable you could use his. Well talk. Sue
