Keep em coming. Wow, what variety of dogs these are. They all sure seem to have personality!

Jethro and I are yet to hike the AT, but I am planning to set out in 2012 and am preping now. He's almost 2 years old and reaching full muscle weight. Lab/Border Collie mix, a perfect intelligent, easy to train, high energy trail dog.
the pic on pp1 of your dog shows a kabar mk2 piolets knife. not to be off topic, but in trying to afford a hike and a dog im selling my kabar. it is the most valuable thing i havent turned into food yet and my last sellable possesion. it is considered by most, including appraisers at freemans auction house as well as sotherbees and christies, to be the holy grail of kabars. only known example is its designation. it also is designated, unique, and , none other on ebay. thats actually a rateing we in the kabar collecting world use . its merits include it being:
an mk2 see bees knife
haveing an arangement of red spacers in the handle unknown in any other
being the first design approved for military contracts ever
being marked on one side, union cutlery co reg us pat off. and kabar olean ny on other.
being bloodstained and containing fleash in the hilt.
haveing shrapnal in the handle
haveing a blade sharpened only once
haveing been ground to allow penetration of thick uniforms by its user
haveing the strong possibility of haveing provanonce(with reaserch)
and much more.
point is, if i sell it, i might be able to get a dog and hike. its worth alot. the kabar museum wants it but will only give a tax credit for it. witch im gonna do, but would rather not. want it?
Good Luck Matty most Kabar's fetch $125... I hope you get more.
Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them.
Woo
Darkage...cool! Hope to see ya out there...however I am starting in southern VA in April and giong up to Maine. I've already hiked most section below that and don't want to get caught in all the crowds...
Celete ... We will be starting at springer and doing the approach trail so i doubt we'll end up catching up ... but stranger things have happened ... Enjoy the hike! =]
Here's my hiking buddy; don't leave home without her:
a police dog was thrown into traffic last night by an assh..le criminal being chased by a nj cop last nite. horrid story. full funeral salute was given as hurst pulled out this morn. i will personaly hunt the guy down if they would give me a licence. one guy caught, other on run. cops real upset round here. we got the best cops in pa and nj. they dont need this at all. very sad. dog died instantly. prayers.

That's horrible. I can only hope karma catches up with them.
Cleste: Jethro looks like a friendly hiker companion all right. How much dog food will you carry and would you carry it or the dog?

Sly Reynard: Do I see a Parsons Terrier here? It'll be hard to keep up with this dog once you start hiking. I hear they will go the whole way! In other words, they are a tough little buzzard . . . er . . . dog!

Such great photos!
Do I hear a suggestion for Dog-Ruck? Bring some baggies and dog packs to show off. How about a shakedown for the dog who carries a large pack?
