I know there are folks who won't believe me, but some years back, there was a guy on the Trail who had two fat PVC pipes as his trekking poles.
And he had about 90% of his gear jam-packed into them.
In other words, he didn't use pipes IN his backpack.
He used PVC piping INSTEAD of a backpack.
I'm not sure how far he got, but at the time I felt this was an idea whose time had not yet come.

you are what you eat: Fast! Cheap! and Easy!
I use some tubing and flexible PVC pipe to gather low lying water. Have it set up to just hook up to piped sources, and draw water from it.

The only time I have ever used or heard of PVC being used in the back country was for poop tubes while hike/camping in the alpine or rock climbing on big walls.
PVC is useful for making struts for homemade snow sleds/pulks. You tie the rope to the sled, then put two lengths of pvc over the rope and then attach it to the hipbelt, so that when you go down hill, the sled doesn't run you over.
3' by 2 1/2" PVC glued to a 'Y' adapted down to half inch for igniter and bottom end threaded to hold in hair spray. Then insert small pumpkin or such into shaft end of device, aim high in the air away from any dwelling or person (by a few hundred yards) and push barbecue igniter button. Best use of PVC after plumbing.
I'll bring the igniter, if you'll bring the hairspray, and we'll "borrow" someone's PVC framed pack.
Oh, and by the way, how come you get to bring the igniter and I have to bring the hair spray? Hmmm? What are you trying to say? That I might be the type of dude that has hair spray? Well let me tell you somthin mister. I dig chicks. (Especially if they have their own hair spray, gel, masca. . . oops I've said too much).
Fine, I'll bring the hairspray. Just forgo the sundress; I don't want an Marilyn Monroe moments along the ridges, unless there is a definite absence of dangily bits and duct tape.
if u make a pack frame out of pvc, why not store water in it? a cap a valve! it would work. add a pump for radiant heat or cooling :}
