    Default Eagle Nest Outfitters

    Dear Brothers and Sisters,

I have a ENO hammock and used it several times and love it. My problem is I never used my Rain Fly and was woundering if anyone has, if so what was your experince with rains. Also, I would like general infomation on just using hammocks on AT.

    Thanks,

If its the ENO rain fly i have heard it does not cover very well. other than that, the eno hammock makes you a trail P.I.M.P.

    Thanks,
First off, to White Blaze!! Nice to see another Kentucky hiker/hanger in our presence. To answer your questions:

    1) If you have an ENO DryFly, it's ok in rain as long as it's not windswept. If it is, you're going to get wet. I have one and know this from experience.

If you're asking about the ENO tarp specifically, it's ok. If you're asking about hammocking in rain, it's better than tenting in the rain and pretty easy to stay dry. There are better options than the ENO tarp.

I have an ENO Single Nest hammock and love it! But I shared your same concerns about what looked like inadequate coverage from either of ENO's two tarp options - at least from the photos on their web site. I finally decided to buy a Kelty Noah 9. It offered much more coverage for about the same weight - and it was cheaper.

I don't have any experience with their tarps. I have a Double Nest, Slap Straps Pro and the Bug Net. I am really happy with the hammock and always sleep like a baby in it, the bug net works but....honestly I don't like the design and think you could make one yourself you'd be happier with.
The Slap Straps are a great idea but I got tired of the loops not being at "just the right" lenght. I now use webbing instead and tie a simple slip knot into the webbing and attach the carbiner to it..the webbing tightens down onto the biner it is adjustable-works great. For whichever hammock I'm using I use the same tarp...an Equinox 10'x12 sil which is more than big enough to stay dry under with room for company, gear, cooking hammock etc.
