Either his Dad or John DeWalt, a 71 year old ultra marathon runner. David Horton also ran with Karl on the 9th. Attached are some pics from the whereskarl. com site.

Here's the latest blog entry from WheresKarl.com from Marit Fischer:
"By best estimates, we've left approximately 27 "where are you guys?" messages on both Sarah and Billy's cell phones. Though we're pretty confident they haven't fallen off the planet, we haven't been able to connect with them at all. We do know that they'll post something as soon as they can, though. Thanks for your patience."

Take a look at the center picture from TrailAngelMary's post #1983 and tell me that John DeWalt looks any older than 50, maybe 55. Amazing.

Definately gotta give the guy kudos for following thru and trying to finish even when the record was no longer attainable. In a sense, I think it's kinda crazy that he's putting his body thru this considering there will be no record. But then again, that just adds to the personal admiration of what he's doing.

I'm sure he'll shatter this record eventually. As many have said, one has an advantage when they are more familiar with the trail.

You know, I know David Horton only from rep and friends of friends, but he sure seems like one classy, high-road guy. A real spirit of brotherhood and fellowship in evidence.
    Kudos to David too.

My thoughts about Karl, not impressed and he has been an arse to other thru's. Try doing it with a pack, cooking your own food, sleeping in the woods, etc. big boy. Like i said, not impressed.
Took a Where's Karl sticker, crossed out Karl and put Chaco.

Does that mean you think he's high road, or a handful? Or both?

BTW: How was your golf game in Pinehurst couple weeks ago?

Karl should simply reply to this... try doing the trail in under 60 days.

It's not how you do it, it's that you do it. or a piece of it. or spend a day on it. Hike Your Own Hike. Not advertised enough

Everybody says it, few know what it means or practice it.

I cared less one way or the other if he made it, but he was very nice when I ran into him in the whites. He even stopped to talk for a minute, even though he was already behind schedule. Good for him for continuing on the trip. He may not have a pack, but I know I couldn't do that many miles with or without a pack on a continuous basis so I still say...good for him.
Will I ever get to where I am going? If I do, will I know when I am there?
