    Default Big 4

    honestly, some of these sets sound dangerous..I seen 1 that was 16oz total..come on..I am all for going light, but some of these have got to be a joke, or just a shot at 1 upsmanship..yea,yea,yea..I know its everyone's..HYOH..but someone is gonna die from this..freak weather does and will happen, as well as serious injury, when least expected ..and to be caught with some of these sets at a critical moment with just a 2 oz poncho and a hefty bag.???
    but anyway hers is my monster pack
    pack..GG NIMBUS OZONE...3.0lbs
    shelter...WARMLITE 2R...3.0lbs
    bag...WM VERSALITE 10'...2.0lbs
    pad...OR EXPED 7 ...1lb12oz

    Default My big 4:

    GG Vapor Trail (Large): 38.1 oz
    HHULBP Asym, snakeskins, extra ridgeline for tarp, 2 ti stakes: 37.2 oz
    thru-hiker down quilt, sil stuff sack: 23.1 oz
    Target blue ccf pad: 11.6 oz
    Total: 110 oz, 6.9 lbs

    This will get me to about 40 degrees (w/ one layer of mid-wt poly, thick socks and a poly hat). Will add another blue pad for above 30. Below 30, varies based on expected temp, wind, and precip - combination of t-rest, pads, add'l clothing and bag liner or 0 deg bag.....

    Default Weight is weight

    ITEMS TO CARRY Lbs.
    Pack, Gearskin, Moonbow, blue Spectra cloth 1.55
    Bag- Feathered Friends 30º Wren [1.94]; bag [.07] = 1.94
    Mat-ThermARest prolite 4S 20x47x1½” w/bag; new 6/’06 1.10
    Hammock, HH, Ultra-light A-sym w/heavy lines (2.18) 2.18
    SPE/HH w/8 wings ¼”ccf (.438) + 1/8x20x41” exten (.125) 0.56
    Total Pounds/AT=............................................... .. 7.33

    For my CDT sections I have been taking:

    Tent-ID Silshelter-; w/12stakes, 30’cord (1.38) 1.38

    instead of the hammock and new SPE I have yet to try out

    While not 'ultralight' by most standards, it is my compromise between comfort and 'lightweight'. It has worked well for me the last few years. But the ground is just getting so hard of late that I am seriously considering just using the hammock on the CDT too and hope for more evening bivouacs with available trees. I can only hope for them as I have long since learned long ago i can never plan the evening stop well along the CDT. It just...happens

    Default ?

    One just cannot copy and paste from a simple spreadsheet to a WhiteBlaze post and have it line up, can one? From mine above, I certainly can't!

    Here is my three season setup;

    Pack; Golite Dawn 15oz.

    Sleep system;
    WM HiLite 16oz.
    MLD Superlite Bivy 6oz.
    3/8 Closed Cell Pad (trimmed down) 5oz.

    Shelter;
    MLD Silnylon Poncho/tarp and 6 Vargo stakes 15oz.

    TOTAL; 57oz, or 3 pounds 6 ounces.

    This setup works (for me) for four days without resupply, however in the early or latter part of the 'three season' range, very careful packing is needed because of extra clothing.

    The Dawn pack is only 2500 cubic inches maximum, and comfortably carrys about 20 pounds.

    I have some new gear so I thought I'd post my new big four:

    Pack: Six Moon Designs Essence - 13 oz.
    Bag: WM Megalite - 24 oz.
    Shelter: Homemade poncho tarp, stakes, groudcloth - 11 oz.
    Pad: Insulmat Max Thermo: 22 oz. + 3 oz. sit pad (for pack frame)

    Total: 73 oz. or 4.5 lbs.

    This set up will take me into the mid 20s and the tarp will double as raingear.

    Couldn't you get rid of the tarp since it never rains in Arizona?!? Of course, you probably end up offsetting any savings in base weight with the need to lug a lot of water.

    Oh yeah, there's a fair share of sleeping under the stars... However after all of the time we put into sewing the &$#%$ing thing, and for the sake of people seeing what others choose to carry I put it on there
