From Dahlonega follow the signs in town, or just ask directions to Camp Frank Merrill, the Army base.

When you get to the front entrance turn right on a gravel road that may be marked "Cooper Gap Road". FS 28, I think. It goes uphill but you already knew that.

It will cross FS42, not surprisingly, at Cooper Gap. Turn left onto US42. You'll pass by Hightower Gap (one road entering from right) then Winding Stair Gap (cross road) before the Springer parking lot, on the right.

I think that should be Cooper's Gap, Winding Stairs Gap, and Hightower's Gap shouldn't?

Tell ya what...you want to drive me back to GA and pick it next week, and then back to Damascus Ill come, but it has my Ski jacket and a bunch of other stuff I have to take with me to NH and it was mailed from Dallas.

I wanted to go, now Im stuck doing jack nothing.

my next question would a station wagon w/ broken suspension on one wheel be okay on fs 42 since it is "This well-graded gravel road, suitable for all vehicles, " according to the compainion

Gaiter, you could probably make it coming up from Roy Road. But it depends on how bad the suspension is.

If you want you can drive to my cabin and I can take you to Springer. I am heading down there with another WB member who is leaving his car here and hiking back on Thurs & Friday. I am not spending the night but I am sure that someone, or even me can get you back here to your car. PM for details if interested.
